Welcome
The Story so far...
As you may know, Wantage cinema closed down in September 2005. Nearly 40,000 people had gone to the movies there in the year before, and its closure deprives the community of a valuable, much-needed and popular resource.
However, that need not be the end of the story. In November, over 300 local people attended a meeting called to save the cinema for the community, which was the largest public response in recent years. As a result, the Friends of Wantage Cinema was born.
Who we are...
The Friends of Wantage Cinema is a locally-based action group. We have no political affiliations and simply one goal.
What we want...
We want our cinema open again, it's as simple as that. To carry out urgent maintenance work on the building and purchase the lease will cost £110,000. Under a fifth of that amount though will give an effective fighting fund and will take us well on the way to achieving our goal of reopening the cinema for the benefit of you, your children and the entire community.
If every household in Wantage & Grove contributed just £10, we'd be over halfway to our desired target.
